Seven Wonders Of The Waterways
The original "Seven Wonders of the Waterways" was compiled over 50 years ago by Robert Aickman who was the co-founder of the Inland Waterways Association, they were published in his book Know Your Waterways.
These are:-
Anderton Lift on the Trent & Mersey Canal
Barton Swing Aqueduct on the Bridgewater Canal
Bingley Five Rise on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal
Burnley Embankment on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal
Caen Hill Flight on the Kennet & Avon Canal
Pontcysyllte Aqueduct on the Llangollen Canal
Standedge Tunnel on the Huddersfield Narrow Canal
There are many other structures on the canals and waterways that warrant the term 'Wonders of the Waterways', these include:-
Sapperton Tunnel on the Thames & Severn Canal
Harecastle Tunnel on the Trent & Mersey Canal
Crofton Pumping Station on the Kennet & Avon Canal
Falkirk Wheel on the Union Canal
Foxton Inclined Plane on the Grand Union canal (Leicester Section)
Lune Aqueduct on the Lancaster Canal
